A FAST PLACEMENT SERVES EVERYONE'S NEEDS
Andy L. - Perl and UNIX guru
I wasn't really looking for a new job. Sure, I'd keep my eyes open, but I wasn't out beating the bushes.
One day, Amy, my wife, was scanning the want ads and came across one that sounded really interesting.
They needed someone that dug open source and loved Perl. I love writing Perl, and it would be tremendous if I could do it full time.
I owed it to myself to see what would happen. The contact for the ad was Roy Talman & Associates, which is a name that I've known
from the want ads for as long as I can remember looking at computer want ads. Talman & Associates had even hooked up my friend with
a cushy Sys. Admin. job. I checked out Talman's website and fired off an email to Ilya. Ilya called my home and chatted amiably with Amy and
set up and appointment with him for 10 a.m on Friday. When I got to Talman's office, Ilya ushered me into his office, sat down with my resume,
and wasted no time finding out more about my job history. I was not the usual type of candidate Ilya sees. I had originally had no intention to leave
where I was at for the last thirteen years, but the job seemed too good not to check it out. Ilya called Harry and was able to set up an interview the
same day, around 1 p.m. At the interview, Harry and I started to talk about what he was looking for in this position, and we immediately bonded
over various "geekyer" issues, discussing the Camel book and SQL syntax. After a while, Harry handed me off to Alan, the company's Sys. Admin,
and Greg, one of Harry's developers. I clicked with them as much as I did with Harry. After Greg and Alan were done talking with me, Harry came
back in and started to talk about the job as if I were going to start on Monday. I left the offices for home around 3 p.m. On my way home I got a call
from Ilya, telling me that I got the job for more money than I had asked for. I was really surprised at how quickly everything happened. I see this want
ad, and boom, boom, boom, now I have this great new job. Without a doubt I would use Roy Talman & Associates again.
